Every single human was gifted
the ability to sing.
The human voice -- as old as the first humans to walk the earth -- is known as the original musical instrument and there is no human culture that does not sing! So when I'm asked if everyone can sing, I have to chuckle.
Over hundreds of years, our musical culture has collectively developed well trained ears. We've become hyper critical of what sounds "good" and "not good." And while this may be worthwhile for the sake of pleasurable listening, this has equally created a tragic limiting belief among most humans:
I can't sing.
But here's what no one is telling you: Singing doesn't have to be for other people.
"A state in which people are so involved in an activity, nothing else matters. This is so enjoyable that people continue to do it for the sheer sake of doing it."
- Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
In modern psychology, the word 'flow' refers to being "in the zone" -- a positive state of mind that combines both skill and challenge. Flow has been studied as a highly productive, happy, and healthy way to live and is particularly effective creative and physical activities.
Singing is an incredible tool for hitting a "flow state." It's natural to our bodies, elevates creativity, and requires only moderate skill to achieve (despite what most vocal teachers say say!).
Side effects of flow include:
> Clarity of goals
> Intrinsic reward
> Complete concentration + control
> Transformation of time
> Effortlessness and ease
> Releasing self conscious judgements
Together, we will create experiences that will transcend you into
flow, fun, and a newfound confidence in your voice.
